A Mindful Tasting Exercise

from The Little Book of Mindfulness

  1. Break off a small piece of chocolate.

  2. Centre yourself with a few breaths.

  3. Smell the chocolate deeply.

  4. Rub the chocolate between your fingers to feel the chocolate.

  5. Now place the chocolate in your mouth and keep it there without chewing or swallowing, but prolonging its presence in your mouth. Fully concentrate on the taste sensation and all the different characteristics as it movers around your tongue.

  6. Be gently aware of your breathing so that the two are harmonious.

  7. After the taste has dissolved, focus on your breath for a few moments before resuming your daily activities.

The chocolate and the rest of your day will never be so good.
